Imperial Culture

Playing a Klingon well is not easy.  You will need to cast off human judgments and see a new definition of Honor.  You will be part of a non-Democratic, non-egalitarian society where war is prized over peace, and talking back to an officer or elder can get you killed.
You do not whisper, you never bow.
Your sense of humor is… a surprise.

On ATS, the Klingon Empire is ruled by a High Council (also called the Council of Elders, the
yejquv.)  The members of the yejquv are the Lords (joHpu') of each major Klingon family (House or tuq).  Women do not serve on the Council, as Gowron once said, but women within each tuq do decide on who should be the joH, and males have no say in this choice.

Houses are named for the joH, and the House will be renamed when the joH is replaced.  In the ATS Klingon Empire, you apply to join a House as part of your first day as a Klingon.  Your House members are your source of instruction, influence, equipment, ships, arms and money.

Your House members will help you to find employment.  In most cases, you will join the Klingon Defense Force (
hubbeq) either as a naval officer cadet or as a security officer trainee.  Those who wish to follow a more mild way of the warrior elect to become merchants, diplomats, doctors and scientists.  But all Klingons generally train in the martial arts and know the use of a blade.

Honor in the Empire is reflected by reputation, the deeds you accomplish that reflect well on the Empire, your House, yourself, usually in that order of importance.  Your baldric may become covered with coveted awards such as the Imperial Commendation, Brotherhood of the batlh'etlh, or the Order of qeylIS.  Your Honor and the Honor of others grows by your ability to tell a good story.

Rank in the Empire tends to go to those who work for it.  Lieutenants are expected to be trainers of crew, Captains to keep their ships flying, and Admirals to plan fleet battles.

All Klingons, even scientists, diplomats and merchants, will know the use of a good blade and be feared as deadly fighters.
